Known as the “Williams- Hudgins” House in the historical book “Forgotten Gates” by Thomas Butchko, it states the earliest part of the home was built in the 1830s. The impressive two-story center hall front block was built in the 1850’s for the local prominent Dr Elisha Williams and his wife Mary. The Williamses resided in the home until their deaths. The eldest of the Williamses children born and raised in the home was Henry Horace Williams. Henry was a beloved and highly respected professor at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. During his career at Chapel Hill, Williams inaugurated the Department of Philosophy. When he died in 1940, Henry left his entire
estate to the University as an endowment for fellowships. The estate is still owned by the University and rented to the Chapel Hill Preservation Society serving as a living legacy to one of the giants in education at the University of North Carolina. The outlying property of the estate eventually became the well-known Horace Williams Airport in Chapel Hill.

After more than two years of renovations, the home currently sits on 22 acres located right off NC-32N in Sunbury, NC. The farmhouse boasts refinished original floors, spacious rooms, and a front porch and swing to sip your tea or lemonade while hearing the birds sing! Come and get away from the hustle and bustle! We welcome you to share in the experience and hope it brings as much peace and tranquility as it does for us.
